Subject SPU359 Nursing for people in home-based care is a practice topic that is carried out in the municipal health service. The aim is that the student will further develop his/her clinical competence through observation, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of nursing practice to patients of all ages with different needs for health care.
Subject SPU359 Nursing for people in home-based care is a practice topic that is carried out in the municipal health service. The aim is that the student will further develop his/her clinical competence through observation, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of nursing practice to patients of all ages with different needs for health care. During this period of practice, the student will focus on the nurse's functions of teaching and counselling. The practice should be person-centred and considerate. The patient's resources and mastery in everyday life are central. The student is expected to have a critical, reflective attitude to his/her practical studies. Nursing practice should be knowledge-based and professionally sound.
Exams from the 1st and 2nd year of study must have been passed in order to take the final examination.

After having completed this topic it is expected that the student:

Knowledge

  • Has broad knowledge of the nurse's guidance and teaching function
  • Has a broad knowledge of nursing for users with illness and/or functional failure
  • Knows about organization and management of the nursing service

Skills

  • Can meet basic needs and resources of users in need of professional nursing care based on independent assessments and justified practices of nursing care.
  • Can contribute to day-to-day mastery among users with challenges related to illness, suffering and functional failure.
  • Can inform, educate and guide users and relatives with regard to problems and needs arising from illness, suffering and death

General competency

  • Can exercise professionally sound nursing care based on ethical and legal awareness and critical reflection.
  • Can take responsibility for one's own learning and show engagement in nursing practice under supervision.

In connection with the practical programmes of study, students must allow for additional expenses for travel and accommodation in relation to practice placements which lie some distance from the campus.

No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.

Mandatory practice topic.
Practice programme of study Guidance individually and in groups, reflection/reflection paper and study assignments.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
Practice 8 weeks.
Practice programmes of study. Duration: 8 weeks. Grading system: Pass/Fail
