International Development and Aid Studies

In this subject we focus on understanding developement and development prosesses, dignity in aid and intercultural understanding. We use examples from differendt parts of the world but espesially from Africa, Latin Amerika and Asia.

In this course we will provide students with theoretical, analytical and empirical knowledge about aid, economic growth and global challenges such as political and economic development, dilemmas with aid and aid programs, dignity in aid, power and wealth in different parts of the world. The course also includes an introduction to theories and perspectives with emphasis on the field aid and international relations.

The course addresses theories and perspectives With in the field of Development, Inter Cultural understanding and challenges in relation to democracy, economic and political changes and the environment. Examples from i.e. Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Non, but we recomend that studens have taken PO118S International relatinons or IN107 Globalizaton

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Knowledge

  • Understand the theoretical and empirical topics in theories of development and development processes, such as Norwegian aid policy.
  • Understand different global issues in Aid, and demonstrate how this may affect the national level, regional level and the international arena.

Skills

  • Gain theoretical skills that enable them to discuss empirical issues within a scientific theoretical framework.
  • Be able to demonstrate (written and orla) skills in development and development challenges, cultural understanding and other sentral aspect within the Development aria.

General competence

  • General competence in various theoretical and empirical issues.
  • General competence related to understand global challenges, politics of Aid and Aid dignity

The study program is evaluated annually by the students through course evaluations and study program evaluation. These evaluations are included as part of the university's quality assurance system.
