International Development and Aid Studies

In this subject we focus on understanding developement and development prosesses, dignity in aid and intercultural understanding. We use examples from differendt parts of the world but espesially from Africa, Latin Amerika and Asia. The SDGs are a central part of this course.

In this course we will provide students with theoretical, analytical and empirical knowledge about aid, economic growth and global challenges such as political and economic development, dilemmas with aid and aid programs, dignity in aid, power and wealth in different parts of the world. The course also includes an introduction to theories and perspectives with emphasis on the field aid and international relations.

The course addresses theories and perspectives within the field of Development, Inter Cultural understanding and challenges in relation to democracy, economic and political changes and the environment. The SDGs are a central part of this course. Examples from a wide range of countries i.e. Latin America, Africa and Asia. There are weekley seminars and lectures

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Knowledge

  • Understand the theoretical and empirical topics in theories of development and development processes, such as Norwegian and international aid policy.
  • Understand different global issues in Aid, and demonstrate how this may affect the national level, regional level and the international arena.

Skills

  • The candidate have theoretical skills that enable them to discuss empirical issues within a scientific theoretical framework.
  • The candidate are able to demonstrate (written and oraly) skills in development and development challenges, cultural understanding, implications of SDGs, and other sentral aspect within the Development aria.

General competence

  • General competence in various theoretical and empirical issues.
  • General competence related to understand global challenges, politics of Aid and Aid dignity

Compulsory for students at Bachelor International Relations and for the One year program. Elective for other students
Weekley lectures and seminars on Campus Bodø
The study program is evaluated annually by the students through course evaluations and study program evaluation. These evaluations are included as part of the university's quality assurance system.
Individually written school examination, 5 hours, grading scale A-F, Beste A, Failed F
Pen, ruler, pc and up to 2 bilingual dictionaries.
