The course covers the following main topics:
- Mental health work
- The nurse's professional contribution in cross-disciplinary cooperation work
- The meaning of relationships
- Methods to be used by the nurse
Bachelor in nursing
On successful completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes.
- Have knowledge of the most common mental illnesses
- Be able to discuss the relationship between menatl, physical, cultural and social factors
- Be able to plan the nursing of patients with mental illnesses
- Be able to account for how The Mental Illness Protection Act can be used for the benefit of patients and next-of-kin
- Have knowledge of how various perspectives about mental illness affect nursing
- Have knowledge of how health promoting and preventive nursing can be carried out for people with mental illness
- Understand the importance of user management and user involvement in an ethical and judicial perspective
- Have knowledge of psychopharmaceuticals and how to administer these
- Be able to document nursing of patients with mental illnesses
- Have knowledge of how mental health work is organised in the municipal and specialist health services
