Nursing Science

SYK361H
The content of the course describes the development of nursing science, history and traditions in the field. The development of concepts and theories in nursing science and different nursing theories in national, Nordic and international traditions are also described.

Enrolled in the master´s of clinical nursing program.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the candidate:

KNOWLEDGE 

Has advanced knowledge of the development of nursing science both as nursing science and caring science  

Has thorough knowledge of differences within nursing sciences and is able to differentiate nursing science from other scientific disciplines 

Has thorough knowledge of one nursing theory and a knowledge of other nursing theories 

Can apply knowledge from nursing science in an innovative way for professional development and research 

Can analyse nursing-professional issues based on the nursing scientific tradition; its character and role in society 

SKILLS 

Can analyse and critically relate to key similarities and differences in different nursing theories 

Can indepently apply and reflect upon a fruitful selection of nursing theories in clinical nursing  

Can analyse and critically reflect upon different sources of nursing theory and apply them to formulating professional questions  

GENERAL COMPETENCES 

Can analyse relevant nursing issues and reflect upon/her own professional praxis  

Can argue selection of interventions and theoretical frame in nursing and caring, and professional development in nursing 

Can communicate about issues in nursing science and in the professional field of nursing 

Can communicate about professional issues from a nursing science perspective both with specialists as well as with the public in general 

Can contribute to new thinking and innovation processes from a nursing science perspective 

The students need a PC with headset and a microphone. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.
Mandatory in Master of clinical nursing. 
Teaching includes lectures, own work and teamwork with presentations in seminars. Teaching will be arranged on campus three times during the semester. 
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
No clinical education
A home exam 2 weeks during the autumn semester
