Philosophy of Caring and Ethics
Enrolled in the master´s of clinical nursing program.
The subject is also offered to nurses and other professions working in healthcare with a bachelor degree.
Upon successful completion of the programme, the Candidate:
KNOWLEDGE
The student
- demonstrates advanced knowledge in philosophy of caring and ethics in nursing
- has thorough knowledge of bioethical questions, priorities in health care and understands the work of clincial ethical committees
- can apply knowledge of nursing and nursing ethics in assessments and decisions in the practice of nursing
- can analyse practical issues in nursing based on the philosophy of caring and ethics
SKILLS
- can analyse and critically deal with ethics of care as expressed in nursing theories
- demonstrates skills in professional and moral judgement related to developmental work in practical and ethical issues
- can relate to the Clinical Ethics Committee as a resource
GENERAL COMPETENCE
The candidate:
- demonstrates knowledge and competence to convey caring and professional judgement related to practical problems in nursing
- can apply philosophy of caring as a reference framework in research and developmental work in nursing
- demonstrates knowledge of ethical priorities in nursing and argues professionally with specialists as well as with the general public
- understands the basic prinsiples and forms of expression within ethics in nursing
- contributes to novel thinking about issues of caring and ethics in clinical nursing

Assessment task: 2 written assignments. The amount of words is 1000 words each. Counts 0/100. Assesment: Approved/non-approved. The assessment task has to be approved before delivering the written task.
