Supervised Professional Training in Medical Nursing

An 8 week/240 hour clinical study that deals with the nurse¿s ability to provide knowledge-based practice, meaning to give optimal care to patients based on best available knowledge, clinical experience, and the patient¿s own resources and preferences. The clinical practice also focuses on the student¿s ability to stay aware of his or her perspectives and to gain experience; work analytically and develop the ability to think critically through continual reflection over personal practice and learning processes. This course will also help the student to develop skills in communication and collaboration, while using the hospital¿s documentation system. Interdisciplinary collaboration with all agencies to ensure the best possible patient discharge opportunities, as well as the ability to teach and guide paitents and families is also incorporated into this clinical study.
Bachelor in nursing
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
¿ Identify nursing needs, create goals, justify choices made and implement and evaluate nursing in a professionally sound way
¿ Utilise knowledge in client participation and build on the patient¿s resources in every aspect of care
¿ Utilise knowledge in various disease processes in relation to patient observation and care
¿ Provide pre, per and postoperative nursing in a professionally sound way
¿ Use the clinical practice area¿s documentation system and document own nursing practice. Participate in oral report and physician rounds
¿ Participate in safeguarding the patient¿s need for information, teaching and guidance
¿ Utilise general hygienic principles, with a strong emphasis on infection prevention
¿ Demonstrate various procedures in a professionally sound way
¿ Administrate medicine in a professionally sound way
¿ Demonstrate the ability to establish trust and communication between patients and families
¿ Plan own work and demonstrate the ability to cooperate with co-workers and other agencies
¿ Practise knowledge in work positioning and patient transfer in everyday work situations
¿ Demonstrate the ability to reflect over professional development
¿ Reflect on the patient¿s emotional reactions related to disease/illness
¿ Utilise knowledge in preventive, promotive and rehabilitative nursing
¿ Reflect on the ethical dilemmas in practice
¿ Administer nursing to a specific group of patients (1st clinical period)
¿ Have insight into what it means to be a group leader (2nd and 3rd clinical period)
No costs except semester registration fee and syllabus literature.
Compulsory.
Clinical practice, guidance (individual and group) reflection (daily/weekly reflection notes) and study assignments 1 and 2.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university¿s quality assurance system.
