TEA2011

The subject provides experience in working with film as actors.

The subject gives students an understanding of and practical experience with film as an art form, technology, and workplace today.

The subject is based on and builds on the teaching the students have already received in acting, music and film.

FILM 2 is a continuation of FILM 1

FILM 2 has the following main components:

The subject provides practical and theoretical competence about the film process, for acting work in particular and about the film field in general.

It will develop understanding of film as an art form, its forms of production, and the actor’s role in film making.

The subject provides an understanding of the actor's work, with the body as starting point in a dynamic interaction with their surroundings in developing their role.

The subject gives insight into film and its larger context to foster an understanding of the role and influence of film on the individual and society.

The students learn about the existing film field, and will get an innovative understanding of film process, production, and the art in the field.

The subject provides ample room for exploration of the student's own choices in a relevant arena under professional guidance.

No prior knowledge beyond the admission requirement is required.

Knowledge

The student

• knows about different film formats from an artistic and technological perspective.

• knows about different forms of production.

• has practical knowledge of working with scripts, acting for camera, and working with directors.

• has knowledge of working with other elements of film production. For example, producers, editors, sound recorders, music composers, scenographers etc

Skills

The student:

• can embody the characters role for the camera.

• can relate to and talk with directors.

• can work with scripts.

• can be an active and responsible with work partners.

• can use different working methods as a basis of artistic expression

General Competence

The student:

• can plan, implement, and evaluate individual and collective artistic process.

• can look objectively at and understand their abilities and resources in relation to their own possibilities

• can take responsibility for their own artistic development, be innovative, curious, and able to pursue collective artistic projects

• can recognize and understand a director's artistic vision.

• can understand duties and rights in the film workplace

In addition to the semester fee and curriculum literature, it is assumed that the student has a laptop computer at his disposal. Material fee NOK 1,000 per semester.
Compulsory courde

The teaching is twofold:

The students will first learn how to apply, develop and adapt their acting competence as actors to film work.

In the second part, the students will be given experience to develop their own work as actors in the film field through practical work with other essential roles and elements of the film making process: director, photographer and working with scripts.

The first part consists of:

  • An Introduction to the field of film as an art form and field of work.
  • Practical work on how to apply and adapt skills and methods to a cinematic context.

The work takes place in full classes, in groups and individually. The work can be both teacher-led, and student-led in groups and individually.

In the second part, the teaching consists of:

• Students learn cinematic work in collaboration with other subject functions in film.

• Practical experience of working as actors in a film work.

• Practical work with directors and photographers and writers.

The work takes place in full classes with external film functions, in divided groups and one to one with the various functions in an artistic collaboration.

Nord University works continuously to improve the quality of its studies. In this work, we work closely with the students: in that the students participate in the evaluation of both the individual courses and the study as a whole. Evaluation in each course will take place by:

  1. At the start of a course: clarification of expectations between lecturer and students
  2. Continual evaluation throughout the semester
  3. Final evaluation

Comprehensive evaluation of the study takes place at regular meetings between representatives for the students and study leaders at Nord University. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

Overall assessment

Practical exam in a group with individual assessment. Grading scale Pass/Fail. Counts 100/100.

Task. Individual. Pass/fail. Counts 0/100.

Compulsory participation 90%. Approved/not approved. Compulsory participation must be approved in order to receive a final grade in the course.
