Philosophy of Science and Ethics

The course provides knowledge about laws and framework conditions for digital collaboration and documentation in the health sector. The course problematises the framework conditions and healthcare documentation practices in electronic health records (EHR systems) involving terminologies and standards, digital information management of health information and digital collaboration (e.g. e-messages). Roles and role understanding between various participants’ use of E-health solutions are key.

In addition, the course provides in-depth insight into user perspectives in digital collaboration and documentation practice. The course provides in-depth insight into patient safety and data security. Ethical reflection is a common thread in the course’s approach to various issues.

The course is part of the Master’s programme in Health Sciences. It can also be taken as an independent course, or as the first part of a 30 credit further education programme (E-health)

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in health or social sciences

Knowledge

  • Can apply knowledge about digital documentation and collaboration solutions related to data security, patient safety, participation and ethics
  • Has in-depth knowledge about laws and guidelines that regulate the use and storage of sensitive personal data in the health services
  • Has in-depth knowledge about digital collaboration solutions and strategies and the use of these in different sections of the health services
  • Can apply knowledge of strategies, standards and terminologies in the development and use of documentation systems that promote health and participation.
  • Has specialised knowledge about the involvement of clients as well as patient and data security related to the use of e-health solutions

Skills:

  • Can analyse and relate critically to digital collaboration and documentation solutions
  • Can use knowledge about digital documentation and collaboration in independent work that involves issues within the field of digital collaboration and user involvement
  • Can relate critically to roles and role understanding in digital information management
  • Can analyse digital solutions in relation to sound professional conduct

  • Can apply philosophy of science perspectives in order to analyse and further develop health-related practice, as well as understand different aspects of society.
  • Can independently describe relationships between values and scientific views, and how this influences research work.
  • Can critically assess, discuss and disseminate platforms of knowledge in the health sciences and their own field of study
the semester fee and course In addition to literature, students are expected to provide their own laptop computer with microphone and video equipment. A stable internet connection with sufficient capacity is required to participate in online teaching and group work.

Compulsory depending on the area of specialisation in the Master’s in Health Sciences, and compulsory for students studying ‘E-health’.

Compulsory course


Online teaching. Student-active learning activities involving different teaching methods: lectures, seminars and group work.
The course is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys. These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.

The course involves one piece of group coursework (AK). Grading: Approved/ not approved. Coursework must be approved before the final course grade can be given.

The examination is an individual assignment (OP). This is in the form of a project that takes place during the teaching period. Grading: A-F
