Philosophy of Science and Research Methodology - Modul 1
The philosophy of science addresses questions about what qualifies as knowledge from different perspectives, providing the foundation for research-based approaches to adapted education.
The course provides a broad introduction to quantitative and qualitative research methods, and various methodological issues. It provides insight into and experience of how to proceed in planning, implementing, evaluating and disseminating research work.
Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge about the philosophy of science, research methodology and research ethics relevant to the subject area of adapted education.
- In-depth knowledge about the use of statistical methods in quantitative studies relevant to the subject area.
- In-depth knowledge about concepts, theories and methods used in educational, special educational and didactic research.
- Knowledge about different perspectives within the philosophy of science and how the researcher’s position influences the research process.
Skills
The candidate can:
- Account for and discuss various perspectives within the philosophy of science in relation to knowledge and research relevant to the subject area.
- Select and apply quantitative methods and interpret statistical analyses in an independent manner.
- Select and apply qualitative methods and interpret qualitative data in an independent manner.
General competence
The candidate can:
- Analyse relevant academic, professional and research ethics issues.
- Communicate about academic issues, analyses and conclusions within the subject
Take-home examination (HJ) - the philosophy of science and qualitative methods, assessed with the grading scale A-F, Representing 100/100 of the grade.- A-F. Duration 3 weeks
Take-home examination - statistics - grading scale pass/fail, represents 0/100 of the grade. Duration: 7 days.
Students who have completed master’s courses in statistical methods and analysis, with a scope of at least 5 ECTS, may apply for the inclusion/approval of previous education in order to obtain exemption from the statistics examination.
Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
