Introduksjon til MARBIO, bærekraftig produksjon og utnyttelse av marine bioressurser

BIO5003

The MAR-BIO mandatory course will cover an introduction to inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to the interactions between fisheries, aquaculture and production and utilization of marine bio-resources with a special focus on entrepreneurship. The course will introduce the students for a wide array of job opportunities, as PhD student or within the industry, within the area of circular bio-economy and blue growth.

The Mar-BIO-introductory mandatory course will be organized with web-based modules combined with physical meeting at the mother institutions responsible for the program. This mandatory introductory course will include three, one week sections where all students gather at one of the Nordic partner Universities for an intensive campus course.

Knowledge

After completion of the course, students will have:

  • knowledge and understanding of food webs in the ocean
  • Knowledge and understanding of the aquaculture and fishery industry globally
  • insight into the complex nature of global and local seafood trade and value chains, how these interact and express themselves economically,
  • insight into conflicts of interest, consumer concerns and public attitudes towards seafoods, fisheries, and aquaculture.
  • Insight into spatial planning, law and regulations of the sea.

Skills

After completion of the course, the students will:

  • have the ability to select relevant scientific methods for research and developmental projects and discuss their successful aspects and shortcomings
  • be able to formulate and a project, taking research ethics into account.
  • be able to use outreach and communications tools to deliver information on scientific and social issues impacting the use and management of ocean food systems to specialists, stakeholders, the press, social media, and the general public.

General competence

After completion of the course, the students will have:

  • selected a topic and rationale as well as geographic location for their Masters’ thesis and initiated communication with a principle advisor and co-advisor(s)/ external advisor(s)/ stak-eholder (s).
  • submitted an individual study plan for the 120 ECTs Nordic Master programme, prepared in communication with a the programme coordinator.

Utover semesteravgift og pensumlitteratur forutsettes det at studenten disponerer en bærbar datamaskin. Studenter må også ha egen labfrakk i emner med laboratorieøvelser.

Kostnader knyttet til reiser mellom studiestedene som inngår i programmet dekkes i 2019, 2020 og 2021.

Obligatorisk for studenter tatt opp på studieprogrammet MARBIO.
Foredrag ansikt til ansikt og online. Diskusjoner og ekskursjoner.
Studieprogrammet evalueres årlig av studentene gjennom emneevalueringer og studieprogramevaluering. Evalueringene inngår som en del av universitetets kvalitetssikringssystem.
