The course focuses on developing knowledge about the Norwegian fossil and renewable energy model. The national political and business solutions that are outlined will be put in an international perspective. Students will get an understanding and insight about the Norwegian energy industry structure. What are the business strategies of key companies when they interact with the complex political and governmental functions in Norway? Case studies of successful Norwegian firms will be presented and compared with international firms. The course discusses the regulative and institutional frameworks, and its work in the Norwegian energy sector. Also, the course considers the role of project management in the energy projects and shows its practical implication. Further, the course demonstrates the national and regional ripple effects and considers multiple stakeholders and their interests. Finally, the consideration of environmental, social, and economic influences in the energy sector are discussed in the course.
Emnet er kun åpent for studenter i studieprogrammet Master of Science i Global ledelse eller i semesterpakken "Business and Governance in the Arctic"
Studenter må være tatt opp på det toårige studiet Master of Science in Energy Management: International Governance and Business eller semester pakken "Governance and Business in the Arctic".
Students completing the course acquire the following:
Knowledge
- have advanced knowledge about theoretical perspectives within energy management and its sustainable development;
- have thorough knowledge about regulative and institutional frameworks in the Norwegian energy industry and Norwegian solutions in the energy sector in an international setting;
- can apply their knowledge about national and local ripple effects in energy projects and have insight to the multiple stakeholders, and their interests in the energy industry;
- can analyze various aspects of project management in the energy sector.
Skills
- can analyze and critically evaluate different business strategies and business models in the energy sector;
- can apply knowledge about central economic and managerial aspects of large projects, both national and international;
- to analyze problems related to environmental, social and economic aspects of energy management;
- can carry out independent research on national and regional ripple effects in energy management.
General competence
- can analyze different business solutions for energy companies;
- can discuss and communicate the academic problems related to energy management.
- can apply their knowledge about key challenges within energy management, both individually and in teams.
- can demonstrate their competence in presenting fundamentals of energy business and management, both oral and written.
