In this course the student will learn to create value through entrepreneurship. The course focuses on two subject areas that are closely related : entrepreneurship and value creation. Entrepreneurship as a research field is discussed related to the topics: individual(s), process, resources, strategy, organization and results, Important for both entrepreneurship and small business management is to create social and/or economic values. A central part of this course is to work in teams to create value and reflect upon this process.
Emnet er kun åpent for studenter på studieprogrammet Bachelor i økonomi og ledelse, Bachelor i eiendomsmegling og markedsanalyser eller tilsvarende utdanningsløp ved Handelshøgskolen.
After completing the course the student should have the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The student should have knowledge about:
- how to develop entrepreneurial skills and entrepreneurial mindsets
- key theories in entrepreneurship and small business management
- the main drivers and barriers to entrepreneurship
- the basic principles for economic, environmental and social value creation in entrepreneurship
- general theories of teamwork
- the main characteristic of an entrepreneurial business opportunity
- tools and methods to develop and explore new business opportunities
- challenges related to the operation and development of family businesses
Skills
The student should be able to:
- contribute to the identification and commercialization of business ideas
- evaluate entrepreneurial business opportunities
- identify trends and needs that can constitute new business opportunities
- work in teams to identify and pursue business opportunities
- reflect upon this process in relation to relevant theories in entrepreneurship
General competences
The student should be familiar with:
- the process of identifying, developing and commercializing business ideas
- the process of starting up new businesses
- the process of mobilizing resources to pursue a business opportunity

The course is based on lectures, teamwork and self-study of relevant literature.
The main activity is a team assignment where the students participate in an innovation kamp and pitch the solution they have developed to an external panel
During the course, the students deliver two written assignments that will be collected into a portfolio for evaluation: 1) a project assignment from the teamwork 2) a personal reflection note about the teamwork process.
Studieprogrammet evalueres årlig av studentene gjennom emneevalueringer og studieprogramevaluering. Evalueringene inngår som en del av universitetets kvalitetssikringssystem.
Sammensatt vurdering, karakterregel Bokstavkarakterer
- Obligatorisk deltakelse (på 2 av 3 prioriterte aktiviteter som gis godkjent/ikke godkjent)
- Oppgave 1 vektes 20% med karakter A-F
- Oppgave 2 vektes 20% med karakter A-F
- Muntlig vektes 60% med karakter A-F
Knowledge of management theory equivalent to second-year level on the bachelor degree in economics is recommended. English, spoken and written.
