I am from Tysfjord, where I was raised in a bilingual home with lulesami as my mother tongue. I was among the first generation to receive Lule Sámi-medium education throughout pre-school, primary and lower secondary school. I was recruited to Nord University in 2016 to teach in the university's first Lule Sámi beginners course.

Educational background:

Bachelor in Lule Sámi Universitetet i Nordland (2013)

Master of Philosophy in English Linguistics and Language Acquistion, NTNU (2013)

Practical-pedagogical education, Nord universitet (2017)

Earlier work experience:

Before I came to Nord I worked with Sámi language technology in Divvun, University of Tromsø. I have also worked as a teacher in Lule Sámi distance/remote learning at Árran Lule Sámi center, as well as being engaged in various language work related to translation and proofreading.

I teach in the university's Lule Sámi studies, mainly within subject didactics and language topics. The university's Sámi study portfolio can be found here.

My PhD research investigates the development of Sámi language education focussing on how the conditions for Sámi language education have changed throughout the years since it was first introduced in the curriculum in 1974. I aim to finish my PhD by summer 2026.

Other research interests include Indigenous education, bilingualism, language and power, language learning and didactics, language revitalization and Sámi curricula.
