Yan Zhao
Yan Zhao is professor of sociology and social work. She is currently the head of social work department at Nord University, Norway.
Zhao’s research covers several migration-related topics, such as diversity and ethnic relations, construction of nationhood, migration and health, aging and care in the context of migration, international welfare/social work and transnationalism. She has also theoretical interests in feminist theories, and transnational feminist movements, postcolonial theories, and narrative studies. She is a member of three research groups at the Faculty of Sciences: Aging, Care and Welfare (ALOVE), Gender, Ethnicity and Equality (KEL) and Social Work. She is also a member of Observatory of Migration and Human Rights, SEA-EU.
Zhao has been the member of the national committee for gender balance and diversity in the research (KIF) appointed by Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research (2022-2025) and is now a deputy member of KIF Committee (2026 – 2029).
