Research group
Gender, Ethnicity and Equality (KEL)
The Gender, Ethnicity and Equality (KEL) research group is an interdisciplinary arena for studying gender, ethnicity and equality in both global and local contexts. Our members bring expertise in areas such as:
- Feminism and equality policies
- Masculinities and gender diversity
- Social exclusion and marginalization
- Race, racism and ethnic relations
- Migration and integration
- Indigenous peoples and minority rights
We investigate how power, norms and structures influence everyday life, politics and culture, historically and in contemporary society. Our work is grounded in critical perspectives and aims to produce knowledge relevant for social development, education and policy-making.
What We Do
KEL is an active hub for scholarly exchange and collaboration. We:
- Hold monthly meetings to share research activities, discuss theory and methodology, and develop academic texts and funding proposals.
- Organize open seminars on current topics related to gender, ethnicity and equality.
- Read and debate new research and key theoretical contributions.
- Work to develop new research projects and international collaborations.
Why Join Us?
- Interdisciplinary expertise: Combining perspectives from social sciences, humanities, education and more.
- Timely topics: From gender diversity and feminism to migration and Indigenous rights.
- Strong academic community: A space for idea exchange, networking and collaboration.
KEL contributes to teaching and supervision across several study programs. We involve students in research projects, seminars and academic discussions, and strengthen theoretical and methodological development in the field.
