About the project

Digital Action on Climate Change with Heritage Environments (DACCHE) is funded through the Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic programme. The project is led by Jamtli Foundation (Sweden) with project partners from Norway Sweden and Ireland. From Norway the project partners are Nord University together with Tindved Kulurhage. Museene Arven is associated partner.

Climate change poses a clear and present danger to the culture, cultural heritage and life of communities in the Northern Periphery and the Arctic (NPA). Cultural heritage organisations are key players in the climate dialogue and motivate local communities and visitors through increased awareness and inspired action. DACCHE aims to draw from local knowledge and equip communities to preserve cultural landscapes with novel digital techniques for communicating heritage stories that inspire positive action in the face of present and future challenges.

Cultural landscapes combine works of both nature and humanity and are home to communities and their heritage. Landscapes, archaeological sites and intangible practices face increasing threat from human and environmental effects. Local communities are most affected by degradation of cultural landscapes in which they live and their capacity to protect and restore is strongest when empowered with the knowledge and tools for democratised freedom of action. Positive action towards ecosystem management and land restoration comes as a result of increased awareness and leads to a return of investment and shared responsibility. The development of digitisation methods and communication strategies can give organisations the knowledge and tools they need to contribute to sustainable conservation. New and emergent technologies offer new opportunities for enriched exhibitions to help communicate cultural and climate stories to new and expanded audiences.
