Biotechnology

BI228F
Biotechnology is the application of biological processes for human benefit in industrial or other walks of life. Biotechnology is, for example, important for the production of food and in the production of antibiotics by genetically manipulated microorganisms. This course provides an introduction to the field of biotechnology, its history, and modern applications.
In order to take this course, the student must first have completed the following course: BI132F Biochemistry and Cell Biology.

Upon successful completion of the course the student should: Knowledge:

  • Have broad knowledge at a basic level, of topics, theories, processes, and tools in the field of biotechnology
  • Have basic knowledge of development of methodology in the field of biotechnology

Skills

  • Be able to explain aspects in biotechnology at a basic level
  • Be able to explain the most important theories for the field of biotechnology

General competence

  • Be able to exchange views and experiences with other biologists and contribute to the development of good practice
  • Develop understanding of modern scientific research in biotechnology

Specialization in biotechnology: Bsc in Biology.
Lectures, practice sessions, seminars, assignment work.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
