ECO5004
This course provides students with advanced knowledge of strategic analysis as a basis for making decisions about new strategic directions, for optimising performance and securing a lasting market position. The course has an interdisciplinary approach through applying selected theoretical perspectives, models and tools from the fields of strategic management, business control and public economy.
The organisations strategic direction, performance and established position in the market is continually challenged by new innovative business models as well as changes in custormers¿ needs and expectations. In order to maintain a competitive advantage in a dynamic environment, sophisticated analytical assessments to evaluate and reposition the activity is required. This course provides students with advanced knowledge of strategic analysis as a basis for making decisions about new strategic directions, for optimising performance and securing a lasting market position. The course has an interdisciplinary approach through applying selected theoretical perspectives, models and tools from the fields of strategic management, business control and public economy.
Knowledge
- Has advanced knowledge of international scientific theories and tools for trategic analysis from an interdisciplinary perspective.
- Has advanced knowledge of the companys strategic resources and capabilities, and it's strategic horizons for sustainable competitive advantage in the dynamic enviornment.
- Has advanced knowledge about strategic management control tools for value creation on an operational level, including target-costing, capital costs and customer profitability analysis
- Has advanced knowledge of game theory as a tool for deriving pricing strategies under different types of competition in the market.
Skills
- Ha deep understadning and are able to analyse the companys strategis position and future strategic direction.
- Has advanced skills in using strategic management control tools at the operational level for decision making.
- Can conduct advanced analysis of how optimal prices are affected by market structures and the organisations targets
General competence
- Can apply modern theories and recognized tools to inform a business case.
- Can conduct strategic analysis to solve practical issues and can use these analyses as a foundation for decision-making
- Can conduct and present an independent analytical work in accordance with academic argumentation.
- Ability to understand how global trends (such as sustainability and digitalisation) affect the company's strategy work.
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
Compulsory.
This course has a high degree of active student participation in teaching through students actively participating in discussions and group work. Students work in groups to solve business cases through applying relevant tools and techniques.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies. These evaluations are included in the universitys quality assurance system.
