A significant part of this course section deals with analysis in relation to two main types of market instruments: equities, interest rate instruments. Pricing, use of instruments and institutional factors will be discussed. The theoretical part includes portfolio analysis, capital asset pricing model (CAPM) and fixed income asset pricing. Moreover, market efficiency and modern asset management principles are also discussed.
The course is only open to students in the Master of Science in Business study programme.

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • Has advanced knowledge of how modern financial markets function
  • Has knowledge of how human behavior can influence financial markets
  • Has in-depth knowledge of the principles behind the pricing of securities such as equities and interest rate instruments, as well as portfolio management
  • Has in-depth knowledge of various analytical tools and techniques related to pricing, advisory, and strategic choices regarding the components of securities portfolios
  • Has in-depth knowledge of market efficiency theories and their implications for investment strategies
  • Has in-depth knowledge of the use of event studies as a method to evaluate market reactions to new information and corporate events
  • Has in-depth knowledge of research traditions within the field of financial markets

Skills

The candidate:

  • Can apply theories, models, and methods within the field of financial markets to price securities such as equities and interest rate instruments
  • Can apply relevant methods to manage a securities portfolio, including governance, strategies, and performance evaluation (portfolio management)
  • Can design and conduct an event study to assess how financial markets respond to corporate actions, policy changes, or macroeconomic events
  • Can analyze and critically evaluate various information sources for finance-related variables and apply these to structure and formulate academic reasoning
  • Can carry out an independent, limited research project within the field of financial markets

The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies. These evaluations are included in the universitys quality assurance system.
