Knowledge

The student

  • has knowledge of important functional groups in organic chemistry and in active pharmaceutical ingredients
  • has knowledge of the connections between organic molecule structure and chemical reactivity
  • has knowledge of isomerism and stereochemical states
  • has knowledge of the main types of reactions and reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry
  • has knowledge of selected pharmaceutically relevant organic-chemical methods for structural clarifications of chemically simple active and natural ingredients
  • has knowledge of the chemical composition and reactivity of selected biomolecules

Skills

The student

  • Is able to display basic laboratory techniques and comply with laboratory safety rules
  • Is able to perform the chemical synthesis of selected active pharmaceutical ingredients under supervision
  • Is able to identify selected organic compounds on the basis of their NMR spectroscopic data

General competence

The student

  • Is able to apply their acquired knowledge in order to make their own assessments about reactivity and types of reactions in organic molecules and adopt a reasoned approach to practical laboratory work
