Admission is based on general university entrance qualifications or prior learning in accordance with current regulations.
It is possible to apply for admission to the course as an individual course. Reservations are made regarding available capacity in the course.
After completing GEO1132, the student should have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
- have knowledge of the concept of resources and challenges related to resource scarcity at different geographical levels.
- have knowledge of demography, migration and settlement geography.
- have knowledge of sustainable development and the associated geographical assumptions and consequences.
- have knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and local, national and international adaptations know interdisciplinary perspectives on sustainability, including links between geography, technology, economics and society.
- have insight into how digital tools can be used in the analysis of population data.
Skills
- can assess the most common types of spatial population statistics, forecasts and theories, and see these in the context of the Earth's carrying capacity.
- can collaborate interdisciplinary to solve complex issues related to sustainability and resource management.
- can use digital tools to analyze geographical data related to resource use and population development.
General competence
- know how social development from the 1960s to the present has influenced sustainable development.
- understand the Sustainable Development Goals and sustainable development in a geographical context and understand political perspectives related to key themes in the subject.
- understand the importance of interdisciplinary interaction in the development of sustainable solutions.
The teaching is mainly given in connection with three mandatory sessions, two physical and one digital. The sessions consist of lectures, excursions and group work.
In the periods between sessions, students work on assignments and online support is provided.
The sessions normally start at Campus Røstad in Levanger, but will also take place at other locations in Trøndelag such as Snåsa, Stjørdal, Trondheim and Flatanger.
Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
