GIS 3D Visualization
The course covers the following main themes:
- 3D visualization of geographic data
- digital production of land-use plan in accordance with product specifications
- visualization of land-use plans in 3D
- use of drone in 3D data capture
- SOSI standard
The subject is reserved for students of the following study programmes:
- Nature Management, Bachelor's Programme

After completing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
- has broad knowledge of the principles for the production of 3D models
- has broad knowledge of the requirements for data bases in order to be able to present these in 3D
- has good knowledge of which data bases are relevant for 3D presentation.
- knows and can keep up to date with guidelines and procedures for using a drone in data capture
- has knowledge of regulations, standards and specifications related to PBL, including Kart- og planforskriften, SOSI and Nasjonal produktspesifikasjon for arealplan og digitalt planregister, and can stay up to date within these
Skills:
- can apply data bases and principles for visualization in 3D
- can master relevant GIS software for the production of 3D models
- can use software and standards to create a 2D and 3D presentation of digital municipal plan and zoning plan
General competence:
- can plan and carry out projects to convey plans / reality through 3D models
- has insight into the ethical issues when selecting and visualizing data
- can evaluate and exchange views on process and finished product
Compound assessment
- Assessment task - 1 submission. Approved/ Not approved. Must be passed prior to the take- home examination.
- Take- home examination, 10 days, comprises 100% of the grade, grading scale A-F.
