The course covers the following main themes:
- planning history, planning theory and the law governing these topics
- sustainable development and area planning
- methods of planning for green structures
- methods for planning in `LNF' areas (agriculture, nature and reindeer husbandry areas)
- impact assessments
- planning processes, cooperation and participation
- SOSI-standard (Systematic Organisation of Spatial Information) for planning
- map and planning regulations
GEO220 Geographic Information Handling or equivalent.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student:
Knowledge:
- Planning history, planning theory and the law governing these topics.
- Sustainable development and area planning.
- Methods of planning for green structures.
- Methods of planning in `LNF (agricultural, nature and reindeer husbandry areas).
- Impact assessments.
- Planning processes, cooperation and participation.
- Planning and building law (PBL).
- Regulations, standards and specifications relating to PBL, including map and planning regulations, SOSI and National Product Specification for area plan and digital plan register.
Skills:
- Working within a multidisciplinary team with municipal plans under the Planning and Building Act.
- Performing parts of the planning work within professional specifications.
- Using thematic data in both establishing plan data and within the planning work itself.
- Creating a digital plan according to appropriate standards, laws and regulations.
General competence:
- Area planning from an environmental perspective, taking into consideration planning and building law, procedural rules, and guidelines from both regional and national authorities.

Compulsory
Lectures, missions and assignments, individually or in groups.
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.
