Introduction to Police- and Ranger Topics
Through this course, students are to acquire knowledge about the current division of roles and tasks related to the various supervisory institutions in Norway. The course further emphasises an introduction to the contents, organising, planning and conducting of the overall supervisory services.
Main themes of this course:
- the current division of roles and tasks in nature and cultural heritage supervision in Norway
- introduction to policing subjects: Including key duties and rights related to the control function tasks of supervisory work
- examples of practical supervision tasks that can be conducted with and without limited police authority
- jurisprudence, criminal process, criminal law, as well as the securing of crime scene and traces
- key aspects of environmental crime and related legislation, including in particular the Nature Diversity Act
- supervision reports
Upon successful completion of this course, the student:
Knowledge:
- has knowledge of the contents, organising, planning and conducting of supervision of natural and cultural heritage in Norway
Skills:
- has skills related to practical supervisory services, including environmental control and selected tasks in an extended understanding of supervision
General competence:
- can apply this knowledge and these skills to the carrying out of various supervision tasks
- shall satisfy the education and training requirements set by the Department of Justice as formal qualification requirements for a potential application of application for limited police authority
Lectures, role play and group assignments.
There is a requirement for at least 80% attendance at the lectures.
Compound assessment. Compulsory work and participation must be passed on order to access the take-home examination.

- Take-home examination - individual, 30 hours, comprises 100% of the grade, grading scale A-F.
