Supervised and practice-linked research and development-based assignment.
Course content
Teacher education shall be research and development-based (R&D-based), where PPU A shall communicate and engage students in scientific/artistic working methods, critical thinking and recognised, research and development-based knowledge. This will promote the students' independence, analytical skills and critical reflection abilities so that as future teachers they can use their R&D competence to acquire new knowledge and further develop their own competence and their schools as learning organisations.
PPU A at Nord University approaches this task by engaging in a supervised and practice-linked R&D assignment during the final academic year.
This R&D assignment carries 15 credits..

Knowledge
Candidates shall:
- possess in-depth knowledge about connections between social development, education policy and the role of schools and teachers in society
- possess broad knowledge of schools as professional learning communities
- possess in-depth methodological knowledge related to implementation of the assignment
Skills
Candidates shall:
- be able to plan and carry out a research and development project based on their own didactic approach
General competence:
Candidates shall:
- be able to find their way round academic literature, raise relevant issues and investigate and discuss these critically during the project
- be able to contribute towards innovation processes and take responsibility for cooperation and development work that promotes academic and pedagogical innovation in education
- be able to contribute to critical analysis of educational policy issues and objectives, ideologies and practices and participate in social discussions on education policy
Course fees
Semester fees, course literature and travel and accommodation expenses for group meetings. It will also be necessary to have functional ICT equipment to participate in the online parts of the course.
Learning activities and teaching methods
Online and classroom lectures, group work and student based activities.
Course evaluation
The course is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys. These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.
Supervised professional training
The thesis is linked to pedagogical and didactic experiences acquired from practical work and to any challenges for schools, teachers and students that the students experience during their supervised professional training.
Description of the course examination
OP - The thesis is assessed with a grade of A-F.

None, apart from admission to PPU for General Subjects.
