Social Studies 2D - Human Geography

In this subject, you will explore the interaction between global and national processes related to distribution, demographic changes, globalization and sustainable development, and central issues for development in Norwegian urban and rural communities. The subject is particularly linked to the curriculum's core element "Sustainable societies".

The student

  • Has knowledge of selected examples of the interaction between global and national processes related to distribution, demography, globalization and sustainable development
  • Has knowledge of issues for development in Norwegian urban and rural communities related to migration, settlement, policy and planning
  • Has knowledge of didactic elements related to the topic

SKILLS

The student

  • Can discuss and present issues from the subject
  • Can find and summarize specialist literature
  • Can critically assess statistics and facilitate work with arithmetic as a basic skill in social studies

  • Can work independently and together with others to facilitate students' learning and development in social studies
Semester fees and cost of course literature apply. Students must have access to adequate technical equipment.
Elective.

Campus-based study program (Levanger): Teaching on campus.

Online and session-based study program (Nesna): Teaching online and at physical session weeks.

Methods: lectures, group work, discussions and student presentations, as well as, if possible, excursions, fieldwork and institutional visits. The students must find and summarize specialist literature as a self-selected syllabus linked to selected case.

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys. 
Compound assessment (SV). All parts must be approved/passed before you get a grade.
  • Work requirements (AK). Three assignments will be given as work requirements during the semester. There may be both individual tasks and group tasks. Assessment expression: Approved / not approved. Weighted 0/100 of final grade.
  • Individual oral examination (MU), 30 minutes. Assessment terms A-F. Weighted 100/100 of final grade. 
No aids permitted.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:

SAM1002 - Social Science 1B, 5-10 - 7.5 credits

SAM1018 - Man, Nature and Society - 7.5 credits

SAM1013 - Social Studies 2 - 7.5 credits
