  • The course focuses on the nurse’s health promoting, preventive, treating, rehabilitating, teaching, guiding and soothing function, with high fidelity simulation as learning method through realistic cases. The learning situation is seated at campus with high technology and skilled scientific nurses in a safe inveronment.
  • This physical health assessment course focuses on a comprehensive health assessment that provides the student with the knowledge, skills and attitude to explore the patient's health care problems by eliciting a comprehensive health history and physical examination of the patient using a systemic approach. The student demonstrates clinical psychomotor skills of inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation in the head-to-toe assessment. The student records subjective and objective findings using medical terminology and critically develops a plan of care. The student gains competence in these skills, which allows them to share their findings with other health care professionals in the clinical setting resulting in improved patient outcomes.

After having completed this course, it is expected that the student:

Knowledge

  • Describes the importance of the health assessment skills for the professional nurse to contribute to the patient's well-being.
  • Describes a systematic approach to collecting and interpreting the health history and physical examination.
  • Has knowledge of methods for observing and identifying symptoms, and justifies nursing assessments and measures in the event of somatic disease.
  • Uses critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills as it relates to interpreting the health assessment data.

Skills

  • Collects appropriate health history from a patient using therapeutic communication skills during the interviewing process and interprets key elements to contribute to an accurate patient's problem list.
  • Performs appropriate and accurate physical assessment skills for each body system accurately.
  • Documents the findings of their health history and physical examination with accurate use of medical terminology.
  • • Can appropriate knowledge about complications of illness and suggest preventive, health-promoting, treating or palliative measures in relation to the patient's needs.

General Competency

  • Develops knowledge and skills eliciting clinical decision-making and holistic care of the patient
  • Can plan and carry out nursing for pre- and postoperative patients.

Simulation and case studies.

Duration: 4 weeks

Practical examination. The examination is evaluated on a pass/fail grading.
