Sustainable Ecosciences

Gain advanced knowledge in ecology and marine life through the lens of Sustainability, Climate and Ethics, while studying above the Arctic circle.


Programme description

This semester package is for exchange students. The programme provides you with a comprehensive understanding of current topics in sustainability and ecology, giving a solid background for future studies within these fields. The programme combines traditional teaching on campus with excursions. It is aimed at bioscience students interested in sustainability, ethics and the climate in the surroundings of Northern Norway's nature.

This semester package is offered to exchange students from our partner universities.

The applicant must be a full-time student on a bachelor's programme within biology or other related fields and have completed a minimum of 1.5 years of their degree. Exchange students are admitted on the basis of nomination by their home institution. The student must first apply to their home university to participate. The home institution will provide the student with information about the admission requirements.

The semester package credits 30 ETCS and will usually be acknowledged as one semester of undergraduate education at universities. The courses offered are in general related to undergraduate programmes within ecology or marine biology depending on the overall course composition.

Upon transfer to our Bachelor of Science in Biology and graduation in the programme, students are qualified for entrance to our Master in Biosciences and our Master in Sustainable Production and Utilization of Marine Bioresources.

Upon successful completion of the programme the student should

Knowledge

  • Understand the principles and theories of using various scientific methods to address sustability questions;
  • Understand the basic principles of ethics and sustainability;
  • Have a broad knowledge of the developments in Sustainability.

Skills

  • Perform a critical evaluation of published scientific information;
  • Be able to carry out various types of basic biology techniques;
  • Be able to use basic biology terminology.

General competence

  • Present and disseminate scientific results to other scientists and the public.

In addition to the curriculum literature, it is assumed that the student has a laptop.

No tuition fees for students within EU/EEA/EFTA.
