Urban and Spatial Planning

A package that focuses on social and urban development using the Scandinavian model.

Programme description

A package that focuses on social and urban development using the Scandinavian model. Courses focus on introducing students to important readings on how we build and engage with society, how we protect indigenous and local culture while sharing it safely and responsibly with the world, and how we measure and map social space using GIS. These courses can help prepare students for a career in civil service, urban and sustainable resource management, or spatial research.

This is not a formalized study program, but a combination of courses recommended for exchange students. Students can also choose other electives/course combination at the faculty of social sciences

The courses in this package are taught in bulks on Campus Levanger.

Attendance is mandatory to be eligible for the exams.

The bulk teaching consist of lectures, seminars, group work and excursions, and the goal of combining these activities, the package creates insight into the relationship between human actions and the environmental and social foundations they depend on.

The teaching bulks during the semester typically consists of 3 gatherings (2 physical teaching bulks, lasting 3 days, and 1 digital teaching bulk lasting 2 days). In the periods between sessions, students are expected to engage in self-study and work with assignments, and for some courses there are also digital teaching and webinars between sessions. Feedback on submitted assignments are given individually.
