Tuition fees for international students

Students with citizenship outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland must pay tuition fees to study in Norway, unless they qualify for an exemption.

Students who were admitted to the study programme before autumn 2023 and exchange students do not have to pay tuition fees.

Nord University does not offer scholarships or grants.

Due to a proposed legal amendment that allows universities to set lower fees, Nord University is planning to reduce the fees from the academic year 2026/2027, providing that the amendment is approved.

  • Applicants from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who have accepted their offer of admission, will receive an invoice by e-mail. The invoice includes tuition fees and semester fees for one academic year.

    • Tuition fees include lectures and standards examination fees. Course literature for programs is not included and must be purchased separately.
    • In addition to the tuition fee, full-time students must pay semester fees that include membership in The Student Welfare Organisation at your place of study.

Tuition fees must be paid in full before each academic year. It is not possible to pay in instalments. Nord university reserves the right to adjust tuition fees annually.

Due to exchange rates, you must make the transfer in Norwegian kroner (NOK). Please note that your bank may charge additional fees for international transfers.

Important: Please mark the payment with the invoice number, which is a customer identification number and will be used to identify your payment in our system. You will find the invoice number on the invoice.

You must pay the tuition fee within 14 days after receiving the invoice. If you are applying from a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, the final deadline for payment is May 1.

International bank transfers may take up to three weeks before the payment is registered by the university. Please make sure to pay early to avoid delays.

Once your payment is received, the university will send you a confirmation letter. This letter may be used when applying for a study permit or visa.

  • The government has proposed removing the requirement that tuition fees must be at least cost-covering.

The Ministry aims for the change to take effect from 1 August 2026. Current rates will apply until a new bill is passed.

The planned rates for 2026/2027 are:

    • NOK 60,000 for humanities, social sciences, and economics/administrative subjects
    • NOK 85,000 for natural sciences, technology, health, social work and sports, teacher education, and performing arts and media studies
  • The current rates for the academic year 2025/26 per year are based on study categories B to F:

    C: 280,000 NOK

    D: 195,000 NOK

    E: 173,000 NOK

    F: 141,000 NOK

    Tuition fees are adjusted annually.

  • You may apply for a full refund of the tuition fee based on the following reasons:

    • You withdraw from your studies before September 1 (autumn semester) or February 1 (spring semester).
    • Your application for a study permit is rejected by the UDI.
    • You qualify for an exemption from the tuition fee before the start of the semester.

In special cases, where there are compelling reasons beyond the student's control, you may also apply for a refund.

How to apply: Send your refund request by e-mail to postmottak@nord.no.

Important: Refunds are made in Norwegian kroner (NOK). This means the amount you receive may vary depending on exchange rates between NOK and your local currency, as well as any fees charged by your bank for international transfers.

  • Some applicants are exempt from paying tuition fees based on residence in Norway or other close connection to Norway. The applications are processed based on the Act relating to universities and university colleges and the Norwegian rules for loans and grants.

If you are granted an exemption, you will receive a confirmation that may be used as documentation when applying for a study permit.
