Evidence-based Practice and Complex Interventions in Neurological Rehabilitation

This is a course for professionals within/students interested in neurological rehabilitation who want international exchange and to learn more about evidence-based practice and complex neurological rehabilitation interventions.
The main theme of the course is evidence-based practice and complex interventions in neurological rehabilitation as well as international exchange of experience and knowledge of the health systems in the three countries. In various active learning activities, the students will be introduced to and discuss framework required for development of complex interventions and types of knowledge involved in evidence-based practice and guidelines. Theoretical and practical introductions to examples of interventions from the involved countries followed by critical discussions. The course contains two digital and one physical teaching module followed by a digital oral examination. Social activities are incorporated in the program of the physical module.
Bachelor’s degree in: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, sport.

Knowledge:

  • Have advanced knowledge of the health system for neurological disorders and analyze similarities and differences.
  • Have deep knowledge of evidence-based practice and ability to critically evaluate types of knowledge involved.
  • Have thorough knowledge of a framework for development of complex neurological interventions.

Skills:

  • Can analyze and deal critically with various sources of knowledge and use them to formulate arguments in clinical reasoning.
  • Can analyze and discuss examples of complex interventions in neurological rehabilitation.

General knowledge:

  • Can communicate in English about national issues within the health system and discuss this with international students.
  • Can contribute to new ideas and innovation within the rehabilitation field.
No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply. Enrolled students who are required to travel will be eligible for an Erasmus+ grant to cover travel and living costs during the physical module.

Theoretical course with practical teaching integrated Blended Intensive Course

Elective course

20 places reserved for travelling students at Master in Health Science, specialization in Neurological Rehabilitation, Nord University, Bodø, Norway; Master in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy, KU Leuven, Belgium; Master in Neurological physiotherapy, University of Cadiz, Spain; Master in Health Science, Aarhus University, Denmark.

The teaching is organized as two digital modules (à 4 hours) and one physical module (5 days) located at one of the three collaborating universities. Lectures, seminars, groupwork, workshops, and practical sessions are used.

Tentative dates for spring 2027:

Week 6: Digital modules February 10. and 11. 2027.

Week 11: Physical module (at one of the tree collaborating universities) March 15.-19. 2027.

(Nord University reserves the right to make changes, as this is a collaboration between three collaborating universities).

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys.

Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

No practice except practical teaching/sessions that will take place in the physical module.

Mandatory:

  • Assessment task 1: a given task at the end of the second digital module, group work, and then an oral presentation the 1st day of physical module.
  • Assessment task 2: a given task presented the first day of the physical module, group work, and then a preliminary oral presentation the 5th day of physical module.
  • Attendance teaching modules and groupwork. Accept 20 % absence.

Examination will be conducted via a digital platform, 2-4 weeks after the physical module:

Final oral presentation in groups of assessment task 2, followed by questions and discussion.

Guidelines for the assessment tasks and examination will be developed.
