Ninni Anita Rotmo Olsen is a member of the Association of Norwegian Visual Artists (NBK), representing visual artists residing and working in Norway. Her areas encompass visual arts, including painting, photography, graphics, and installation, often integrated into multimodal arts projects. With extensive experience in teaching art in high schools, folk high schools, art and cultural schools, and free art projects, dedicating the last decade to teacher education.

At Nord University, her pedagogical practices are known for their performative nature, while her research explores the intersections between art-based inquiry and sustainability in education. Her Master's thesis in art education employs the art-based method STUNT, which is staged through play and emphasizes aesthetics.

Currently, she is involved in a research project led by the Art and Crafts research group at Nord University, now focusing on sustainable art and design in collaboration with the University of Cadiz, the University of Algarve, and Norsk Fjordskinn. This project investigates how art and materials can serve as a foundation for deeper scientific inquiries, aiming to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns by exploring the synergies between culture, nature, design, and art.

Her work in art pedagogy and didactics focuses on art, often combining analog and digital techniques in light of art's role in technological development, with an emphasis on perception, aesthetics, and creativity. As a visual artist, she has participated in juried exhibitions and public procurement projects, showcasing her work to a broader audience.

The guidance method places a strong emphasis on aesthetics, encouraging students to develop a deeper understanding of aesthetic principles through practical work and reflection. The STUNT method (Olsen, 2015) promotes creativity by giving students the freedom to experiment with various artistic techniques and materials. This can include both analog and digital tools, depending on the nature of the project. It involves live demonstrations, interactive workshops, and other forms of performative and active participation.

Her research encompasses several areas, including perception, creativity, aesthetics, infographics and semiotics, and sustainable art and crafts related to art, culture, and nature. She explores how art-based methods can promote aesthetic understanding and creative exploration. Her work with infographics helps to simplify complex information and make it more accessible. Additionally, she investigates how art and materials can be used to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns by exploring the synergies between culture, nature, design, and art.
