Research group
Nord University Linguistics
This group connects researchers both within and beyond Nord University that are dedicated to the scientific study of language, and its applications in education.
The field of linguistics has discovered a great deal about linguistic knowledge, across domains such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and the process by which they are learned.
Our group contributes to research on these and related topics through the investigation of language in general, and of particular languages. This includes languages of focus for Nord University such as English, Norwegian and the Saami languages, as well as any other languages of interest. Contact the head of the research group, Colin Davis, colin.davis@nord.no, for information on how to join.
The group holds regular meetings which serve as a venue for project presentations, research collaborations, discussions of scientific articles, and similar activities. Our events are hosted at Nord University’s Bodø campus, but are held in a hybrid format so that members in other locations can also participate.
See the following page for news about the group and our current meeting schedule: https://sites.google.com/view/nord-university-linguistics
Our linguistic research directly supports the development of scientifically accurate education about language and the learning of it. Through this, we equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in language teaching, and other language-focused professions.
Training in the scientific study of linguistics also strengthens our students’ skills in problem solving and analytic thinking. More advanced students can further enrich their education by participating in the activities of the group.
