Sustainable Leadership and Arctic Perspectives

The study program is session-based, with 4–5 sessions of 4–5 days each semester.

Admission requirements:

• A completed bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 180 ECTS credits). The following subject combination requirements from the undergraduate education apply:
• Specialization of at least 90 ECTS credits in economics and administrative subjects or social sciences. Within the required 90 ECTS credits in economics, administrative, or social science subjects, the following must be included:
• Minimum 20 ECTS credits in organizational, management, or educational subjects
• Minimum 5 ECTS credits in social science methodology
• A minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C in the ECTS scale. For international applicants, a minimum of 2nd Class Upper Division/B or equivalent is required.

Ranking: If there are more applicants than available places, qualified applicants will be ranked based on grade points.

The study programme gives you a golden opportunity to gain international experience. In the third semester, you can attend regular student exchange at one of Nord's many partnership universities.

Upon successful completion of this degree, candidates qualify for applying for admission to the PhD programme at Nord University Business School as well as at other institutions in Norway and abroad. Knowledge

The candidate:

• Possesses advanced broad and in-depth knowledge of central scientific theories, concepts, and models within sustainable leadership and how leaders, employees, and society at large can actively participate in the development of societies characterized by high quality of life within ecological framework conditions.
• Has advanced knowledge of perspectives within leadership, entrepreneurship, and technological development at the company, societal, and institutional level, within a framework of social, economic, and ecological sustainability.
• Has advanced knowledge of how environmental, social, economic, and geopolitical aspects affect the energy sector, and how circular value chains can contribute to sustainable development in both a Norwegian and international perspective.
• Holds advanced knowledge of philosophy of science, social science research traditions, methodological approaches, and in-depth knowledge of research ethical norms.
• Has insight into relevant and timely international research literature and can apply this to new phenomena and issues within leadership and sustainability.
• Has in-depth knowledge of global challenges in general and concrete solutions in the Arctic context in particular, and how interdisciplinary perspectives, multicultural insight, and value-reflected assessments can contribute to solving challenges in a holistic way through local and regional measures.

Skills

The candidate:

• Can, through interdisciplinary understanding, critical reflection, and analysis of information and sources, work out creative solution proposals for complex issues for companies, organizations, and public administration.
• Is capable of putting global and local perspectives in context with each other and contribute to processes for increased understanding of how a constructive interaction between environment, culture, technological development, societal, and corporate economic aspects depend on ethical assessments and decisions.
• Has a deep understanding of how proactive long-term solutions for sustainable development can lead to any ecological, cultural, and economic future crises being given less breeding ground.
• Is capable of analyzing and holistically assessing issues based on relevant theory and empirics and assess suitable research method.
• Can carry out, present, and communicate an independent delimited research project under supervision in line with research ethical norms.

General competence

The candidate:

• Is capable of reflecting and thinking critically about established truths and their own experiences from international cultural diversity and is conscious of their role in the local and global society with ethical awareness.
• Can contribute to seeing both the whole and maintaining focus in change and development work within sustainability, based on a balanced understanding of what can be valuable from a business, environmental, and societal perspective.
• Can make use of acquired knowledge and relevant international research literature and contribute to the public debate on how interaction between politics, business, public administration, and civil society drives forward and contributes to processes towards vibrant and sustainable societies.
• Can apply acquired qualities such as interdisciplinary understanding, creative thinking, and entrepreneurial inventiveness to both local, national, and international issues, and to new application areas.

Tuition fees for international students

Citizens of the EU/EEA/EFTA are exempt from tuition fees.

Students who hold citizenship from countries outside the EU/EEA/EFTA are required to pay tuition fees. The current tuition fee for this program is NOK 180,000 per annum. Please be aware that tuition fees are subject to annual adjustments, and the fee stated here may not reflect the most recent update.

Nord University does not provide grants or scholarships. However, certain students may qualify to apply for an exemption from the tuition fees.

Students must also cover their travel expenses between Norway and partner institutions for the exchange semester (refundable for Norwegian students via the Norwegian State Education Loan Fund). The same applies for students choosing internship.
