ArcticNext is a brand-new competition at Nord University, arranged together with Memorial University in Canada.
It runs 26–28 September at the SPIR Innovation Lab in Bodø and at Memorial’s campus in St. John’s.
You don’t need to have the perfect plan. As long as you have an idea - big or small - you can join.
Teams of three to five will work together all weekend, with mentors on hand to guide the process.
At Nord, advisers Line Mathilde Karlsen, Ellinor Ida Jenssen Kirkfjell, and Andrey Kazakov are part of the local team working with students.
– This is a unique opportunity, they state.

A Weekend to Focus
The idea is simple: put your everyday routines aside and spend a weekend trying something new.
Work with others, meet mentors, and see how far your idea can go.
– Students really get the chance to dig into problems and explore solutions, says Line Mathilde Karlsen.
The competition is about the issues that matter most in the North, and the aim is to make Arctic communities better.
– You work with your local team, but also meet Canadian students online, adds Ellinor Ida Jenssen Kirkfjell.
It’s both local and international at once.
Andrey Kazakov weighs in:
– It’s a social weekend and a good chance to build networks.
– Students get a certificate, mentoring, and a taste of what innovation is like in practice.
Long-Term Focus
The registration deadline has been extended and students still can register online by September 23. Those alone will be matched with others.
Use your last chance to join us!
– The only things we really demand are time and willingness to try, the team shares.
And the journey doesn’t have to end on Sunday. Students can continue to develop their ideas afterwards, apply for seed funding such as Nyskaper, or get support from the team at Nord.
– The weekend is just a starting point for developing ideas further, they add.
