Social Studies 1C - The emergence of modern Norway

The course will provide insight into how the "modern" Norway has taken shape, and how different aspects of this modernization process can be incorporated into the school's social studies teaching.
The course deals with the emergence of modern Norway from around 1800 until today, and how this theme can be included in the school's social studies teaching. It will thematize social, economic and political processes of change with particular focus on how these have contributed to shaping democratic development in Norway during this period. The course will help develop historical awareness and historical empathy, and provide knowledge about and contribute to the understanding of historical change.    
Admission to the study programme.

KNOWLEDGE

The student  

• has knowledge of the emergence of modern Norway from the 1800s both nationally and locally 

• has special knowledge of the democratic development in this period  

• has knowledge of history didactics and historical concepts, theory and methods  

SKILLS

The student   

• Can apply knowledge of the topic's topic in independent analysis 

• Can link the topic of the course to the school's education in democracy

 • Can use and critically evaluate different types of sources and learning resources  

• Can reflect on and apply different didactic methods to stimulate pupils' historical awareness and understanding of historical change 

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The student 

• Can read and analyze professional literature 

• Can use sources in a scientific way 

• Can reflect critically and independently on key social science and didactic issues within the subject

In addition to the semester fee and syllabus literature, it is assumed that the student has a laptop at their disposal.
Elective
Lectures, group work and student presentations.  Student-active learning methods are central. Active participation is a prerequisite for achieving the learning outcomes for the course. There are two compulsory work requirements (AK) during the semester. 
The study programme is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys (midway evaluation and final evaluation). Evaluation is part of the university's quality assurance system.

Composite assessment. All parts must be approved/passed before you get a grade.

Compulsory attendance at teaching. Requirement of minimum 80% participation. Assessed as approved/not approved.

Coursework requirements (AK) in the form of 2 assignments. Further requirements and information will be given in the semester plan for the course. Assessed as approved/not approved.

Oral individual exam, 30 minutes. Grading scale A-F. Counts 100/100 of the grade.
